This is a record store I've been going to ever since I first moved to Setagaya. It's popular because of its amazing point card system, which is valid as long as the store is open. Once you collect 50 stamps, you can buy any number of records under 15,000 yen for half price.
Anna Plücknar: A Warsaw-born actress who tells her turbulent life story through song.
Anna Plücknar was born in 1940 in Warsaw, Poland, a city still heavily affected by the aftermath of World War II. Born into a prominent family, she had ample opportunities to be exposed to art from a young age, but she lost her father in the ravages of war and was confronted with the harsh realities of life.
Nevertheless, she never lost hope, continuing to study piano and vocal music, and developing her acting talent in a student drama club in Warsaw. She made her film debut at the age of 22 and started her acting career smoothly, but moved to France in 1970. As a new challenge, she appeared in numerous stage productions, including works by Bertolt Brecht, captivating audiences with her acting skills.
However, the 1973 film "Sweet Movie" drastically altered her life. She was labeled "pornographic and anti-communist" by Polish authorities, and her passport was confiscated. Despite the hardship of being exiled from her homeland, Anna never gave up.
Armed with her inherent vitality and passion, she began her career as a singer in the 1970s. Her album titled "Dreams of the West, Dreams of the East" became popular in France, Belgium, and around the world, and her talent was recognized across borders. In 1989, she finally achieved a triumphant return to Warsaw, inspiring and encouraging the people of her homeland.
In 2002, she published her autobiography, "Born in Warsaw." This work, which candidly recounts her turbulent life—war, exile, and her passion for art—touched the hearts of many.
Anna Plücknal was not only beautiful, but also a strong and resilient woman. Her unwavering determination to overcome adversity and forge her own path in life teaches us much. Her works will undoubtedly continue to be loved and remembered by many for generations to come.
