This record store is one I've frequented ever since I moved to Setagaya. As long as the store exists, their point card is valid, and once you collect 50 stamps, you get half off any number of records under 15,000 yen, which is a fantastic system that makes the store popular.
Anna Prucnal: A Warsaw-born actress, her tumultuous life told through song
In 1940, Anna Prucnal was born in Warsaw, Poland, under the heavy shadow of World War II. Born into a distinguished family, she was exposed to the arts from an early age, but the war claimed her father, exposing her to harsh realities.
Despite this, she never lost hope, studying piano and vocal music, and her acting talent blossomed in a student theater group in Warsaw. At 22, she made her film debut, embarking on a smooth acting career, but in 1970, she moved to France. As a new challenge, she appeared in numerous plays, including works by Bertolt Brecht, captivating audiences with her acting prowess.
However, the 1973 film "Sweet Movie," in which she appeared, dramatically altered her life. Labeled "pornographic and anti-communist" by Polish authorities, her passport was confiscated. Despite the bitter experience of being expelled from her homeland, Anna never gave up.
Armed with her innate vitality and passion, she also began a career as a singer in the 1970s. Her album, "Dreams of the West, Dreams of the East," gained popularity in France, Belgium, and around the world, and her talent became recognized across borders. In 1989, she finally made a triumphant return to Warsaw, bringing emotion and courage to the people of her homeland.
In 2002, she published her autobiography, "I Was Born in Warsaw." This work, which candidly chronicled her turbulent life of war, exile, and passion for art, touched the hearts of many.
Anna Prucnal was not only beautiful but also strong and resilient. Her life, always forging her own path without succumbing to adversity, teaches us many things. The numerous works she left behind will continue to be loved and remembered by many.
