Today's playlist. This 43rd edition is "Rain & Tears (Hit Ballads Of The Sixties)".

I bought it at "Flash Disc Ranch", my favorite record store in Shimokitazawa.

This is a record store I've been frequenting since I first moved to Setagaya, and its popularity stems from a fantastic system: a point card, valid as long as the store exists, allows you to buy records under 15,000 yen at half price once you collect 50 stamps.

Released in 1989 by the British label "Pickwick Music", this is an omnibus album of 12 songs.

Aphrodite's Child: From Greece to the World after a Military Coup

Aphrodite's Child was formed in Greece in 1967 by Vangelis Papathanassiou (keyboards), Demis Roussos (vocals and bass), Loukas Sideras (drums), and Anargyros Koulouris (guitar). However, following the military coup in 1968, they moved to the UK in search of international opportunities. Due to visa issues, they ended up staying in France, where they officially launched their activities as Aphrodite's Child.

The Mega-Hit "Rain and Tears" and Disbandment due to Musical Differences

The single "Rain and Tears" became a massive hit across Europe. They continued their successful career, releasing albums like "End of the World" and "It's Five O'Clock," and even performed at the Sanremo Music Festival in Italy.

However, due to musical differences, the band initially broke up. Later, to fulfill their record contract, they reformed and released the double-LP concept album "666 - Aphrodite's Child's Wonderful World" in 1971, which was their final release before officially disbanding.

Members Pursued Individual Paths After Disbandment

After the band's breakup, Vangelis achieved global success with his synthesizer-driven music, while Demis Roussos became a prominent solo singer, particularly in Europe. Loukas Sideras transitioned into a producer, and Anargyros Koulouris worked as a studio musician.

The music left behind by Aphrodite's Child continues to captivate many music fans as a monumental work of progressive rock. Their music, much like Greek myths, will be passed down through generations.

In 1959, he debuted with "Maybe Tomorrow." He went on to release a string of hit songs, quickly rising to stardom. However, his intense stage performances took a toll on his heart, forcing him to transition into a ballad singer.

Despite this, he released numerous hits such as "Halfway to Paradise" and "Jealousy," and even appeared in films. However, in the late 1960s, he was plagued by changes in the music scene and illness, leading to a semi-retirement.

Resilience for a Comeback, Then a Sudden Farewell

In the 1970s, he underwent heart surgery and resumed activities, appearing in the film "That'll Be the Day." In the 1980s, he made a comeback and returned to the stage, but in 1983, he passed away suddenly shortly after finishing a recording. He was only 42 years old.
