Customers often ask about the atmosphere of the shop. They talk about movies, books, and music. The walls are decorated with many records, and big band jazz plays from the record player. There is a bookshelf in the shop with 50 to 60 books of various genres that customers can freely read.
The concept is "camping." However, people often say the store is chaotic. What I want to convey is that camping is just one hobby among many, and that having a hobby is wonderful.
I'm not trying to force anyone to go camping. What I want to offer is a time to step away from everyday life and discover a new hobby. For example, collecting records would be a good hobby.
The bookshelves in the shop are filled with books written by comedians, novels set in Shimokitazawa, photo books, and novels by my favorite authors: Haruki Murakami, Kiyoshi Shigematsu, and Banana Yoshimoto. Our online shop also features blog posts about Juzo Itami, a film director I deeply admire.
Watching movies, listening to music, reading, and camping—I share information about a variety of hobbies because I want to convey the wonderfulness of having hobbies.
I believe that people with hobbies are more resilient to stress. When they're tired from work, they can relax by watching their favorite movies, listening to music, or reading books.
The world is full of difficult things, but my wish is to reduce the number of people who have no hobbies, even if only slightly.
Therefore, instead of forcing people to go camping, we offer an opportunity to casually drop by our cafe and read books you wouldn't normally pick up, or listen to new music.
Books, music, records, camping. These are things that can offer hints to people who are troubled.
If you don't have any hobbies, you should definitely visit WAITER-U. You might discover something new while enjoying a cup of coffee or craft beer.
