Hello everyone! I'm Tsukui, and I run "THE CAMPING LOUNGE WAITER-U," a cafe in Shimokitazawa that feels like a campsite. Yesterday I talked about choosing a campsite, and today I'll continue that topic by talking about how to read the weather forecast before going camping.
Normally, when we check the weather forecast, we tend to look at the temperature, weather, pollen information, and heatstroke warnings for where we live. However, when you're going camping, you need to look at the weather forecast from a slightly different perspective.
That's why I recommend the smartphone weather app "Weather News." This app lets you see pinpoint weather forecasts for all of Japan up to two weeks in advance, and you can get weather information from various angles.
Before heading out camping, I especially recommend checking the wind forecast. As I briefly mentioned in yesterday's broadcast, strong winds are a real pain when camping! Besides the safety risks, setting up a tent becomes incredibly difficult, especially when solo camping. When setting up a large tarp, it's great if someone can help, but if you're alone, you need to use objects to secure it, and those objects can easily be blown away by strong winds. Personally, I'd rather avoid strong winds than rain.
Once you've chosen a campsite, first enter the address into Weathernews and check the weather forecast. It's recommended to look at the forecast for the next few days to get a feel for the wind strength trends one to two weeks in advance.
Another important factor is the minimum temperature. We tend to focus only on the maximum temperature, but be sure to check the minimum temperature as well. Even if it's warm during the day, it can get very cold at night. Prepare your cold weather gear accordingly, taking into account the minimum temperature. It's important to choose the right equipment, such as wearing thermal underwear or bringing a warm sleeping bag.
When checking the weather forecast, be sure to check the wind information and minimum temperature.
