I purchased it at my go-to record store in Shimokitazawa, "Flash Disc Ranch."
I've been frequenting this record store ever since I moved to Setagaya. They have a popular, amazing point card system that's valid as long as the store exists: accumulate 50 stamps, and any number of records under 15,000 yen become half price.
Shimokitazawa is a place where I'm often tempted to spontaneously get off the train on my way home on the Odakyu Line.
Whenever I get off at Shimokita, I always stop here, buy a few records, and then head home.
I've been doing this for about 5 years now.
Eddie Daniels was born in New York and grew up in Brighton Beach, Brooklyn, as part of a family of Romanian immigrants with a Jewish mother. As a teenager, inspired by Frank Sinatra's singers, he began playing the alto saxophone and performed in the youth competition division of the Newport Jazz Festival at age 15. By the time he went to college, he also played the clarinet.
Afterward, he participated in various bands, small groups, and orchestra tours and recordings, including collaborations with Thad Jones, and appeared on television numerous times. However, from the 1980s onward, after turning 40, he primarily dedicated himself to the clarinet. In 1989, he won a Grammy Award for his performance of "Memos from Paradise," arranged by Roger Kellaway.
He has been nominated for a Grammy Award five times (1986, 1987, 1992, 2007, 2018). His collaborators include Thad Jones, Gary Burton, Mulgrew Miller, Roland Hanna, Richard Davis, and the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra. Among Japanese musicians, he has recorded with Terumasa Hino and Masabumi Kikuchi, and performed at Blue Note Tokyo in 1991.
