I bought it at Flash Disc Ranch, my favorite record store in Shimokitazawa.
This is a record store I've been going to ever since I first moved to Setagaya. It's popular because of its amazing point card system, which is valid as long as the store is open. Once you collect 50 stamps, you can buy any number of records under 15,000 yen for half price.
Shimokitazawa: A place that makes you want to spontaneously get off the train on your way home on the Odakyu Line.
Whenever I get off at Shimokitazawa, I always stop by here and buy a few records.
I've been doing that for about five years now.
Eddie Daniels was born in New York City to a family of Romanian immigrants, with a Jewish mother, and grew up in Brighton Beach, Brooklyn. As a teenager, inspired by Frank Sinatra's music, he began playing the alto saxophone and at age 15 performed in the youth competition at the Newport Jazz Festival. By the time he went to college, he also began playing the clarinet.
After that, he participated in concert tours and recordings with various bands, small ensembles, and orchestras, including collaborations with Thad Jones, and made numerous television appearances. However, from the 1980s onward, after turning 40, he mainly focused on the clarinet, and in 1989 he won a Grammy Award for his performance of "Memos from Paradise," arranged by Roger Kellaway.
He has been nominated for a Grammy Award five times (1986, 1987, 1992, 2007, and 2018), and his collaborators include Thad Jones, Gary Burton, Mulgrew Miller, Roland Hanna, Richard Davis, and the Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra. He has also recorded with Japanese musicians Terumasa Hino and Masabumi Kikuchi, and performed at Blue Note Tokyo in 1991.
