From Seattle Rain to Piano Melodies
The Seattle rain quietly transformed into piano melodies, nurturing the talent of Dan Siegel. Familiar with music from his early childhood, Siegel began his professional career at age 12, honing his skills at Berklee College of Music and the University of Oregon.
In 1980, he made a striking debut with his first album, "Nite Ride," on the prestigious jazz label Inner City Records. The subsequent album, "The Hot Spot," entered the Billboard Jazz Chart Top 10, quickly drawing attention to him as a rising star in the jazz world.
To LA and New Challenges
However, Siegel's inquisitive mind knew no bounds. He relocated to Los Angeles, the center of entertainment, and expanded his work into film and television music production. In 1986, he signed with Epic Records, establishing a new genre: smooth jazz. His refined sound captivated many and became a defining music of its era.
That's him, the music playing in the background of weather forecasts.
Siegel's talent extends beyond composition. He composed music for the film "Reform School Girls" and the popular TV show "Hard Copy," and served as music director for CBS's late-night show "Overtime... with Pat O'Brien." Furthermore, his activities are diverse, including participation in the music for the Academy Award-winning film "The Usual Suspects."
Siegel's music, played during The Weather Channel's forecasts, quietly accompanied people's daily lives, providing a comfortable atmosphere. Continuously evolving from new age to contemporary jazz, Dan Siegel's music still captures and holds the listener's heart. Siegel's melodies will continue to fascinate listeners, much like a painting that colors various scenes of life.
